Terms & Conditions
These terms and conditions are intended to make sure there is a clear and fair understanding between Grahame’s Upholstery and its customers.
Our aim is transparency, honesty, and clear communication at all times.
About the Business:
Grahame’s Upholstery is a small, home-based, sole-trader upholstery business operating in New Plymouth.
The business is semi-retired/part-time, with limited workshop space and lifting capacity.
Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm.
Work outside these hours may occur but is not guaranteed.
Services Accepted
Operating in reduced capacity domestic upholstery, trading in recovering:
Dining chairs/single chairs.
Squabs and cushions.
Small upholstery repairs.
Refurbishing, recycling, and repurposing single chairs for sale.
Due to space, access, and lifting limitations, the following will not be accepted:
Lounge suites and couches.
Recliner Chairs.
Large or heavy single chairs including rolled armchairs.
Antique or heritage / deep button chairs.
The right to decline work that is unviable and uneconomic is reserved.
Estimate and Pricing
Due to the nature of upholstery work, the full extent of required repairs often cannot be determined until an item has been dismantled. As a result:
All prices provided are estimates only, not fixed quotes.
Estimates may be given in person.
Estimates are not binding and may change once work begins.
If additional work is identified, all effort will be made to discuss this with the customer before proceeding.
All chair frame repairs will be outsourced at the customers expense.
Material costs are additional unless otherwise stated.
Labour rate is $75 per hour including GST.
Accepting the work
The customer accepts that the final cost may differ from the original estimate.
The customer authorises necessary repairs related to the agreed work.
Payment Terms
Invoices/cash sales issued by email (Xero).
Payment is required within 7 days of the invoice date.
Communication
By phone or email.
No call-outs or home visits for measuring and quoting.
No quotes will be made over the phone.
All work will be assessed first in my workshop studio.
Upholstery/Wooden/Metal Frames
Wooden frames with signs of borer will not be considered to be reupholstered.
Metal frames that are bent or showing signs of weak joints will not be considered.
All frames for repairs will be outsourced to joiners at the customers approval and expense.
Health & Safety
Signs are to be observed at all times.
Customers are not permitted in the workshop without permission.
Consumer Guarantees Act (1993) and Fair Trading Act (1986) (updated 2026)
All obligations under these Acts will be acknowledged.
